Assistant Underwriter – Existing Business 

Salary: £30,000 – £40,000 
Location: Leeds 

Do you enjoy building strong relationships and supporting brokers to deliver great outcomes for customers? 

We’re looking for an Assistant Underwriter to join our Existing Business team in Leeds. In this role, you’ll help us proactively develop and grow our commercial book of business in a sustainable and profitable way. You’ll work closely with brokers, use data insights to shape decisions, and support the team in achieving financial goals. 

A bit about the job 

You’ll manage existing business for brokers and customers, ensuring renewals are handled efficiently and competitively. Collaboration is key—you’ll work with colleagues to deliver team targets and support our senior underwriters. You’ll also gain exposure to mid-market strategy and have opportunities to progress towards higher underwriting licence levels. 

Skills and experience we’re looking for 

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills – able to listen, negotiate, and work collaboratively in a large, complex organisation. 

• Presentation and influencing ability – confident engaging with brokers and customers to explain decisions clearly. 

• Organisational and time management skills – capable of prioritising multiple tasks and meeting deadlines. 

• Commercial awareness – experience in trading or commercial underwriting is desirable, as is knowledge of Property & Liability or Motor Trade. 

• Regulatory understanding – familiarity with FCA rules and relevant legislation is helpful but not essential.

• Starting salary between £30,000 and £40,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
