Head of Group Life Insurance Risk – Salary £125,000 - c. £135,000

This is a great job for someone who wants to shape the life insurance risk agenda of one of the UK's leading insurers and play a direct role in supporting Insurance, Wealth & Retirement (IWR)'s ambitious growth plans

We're looking for a commercially minded risk leader to join our UK Insurance, Wealth & Retirement (IWR) Risk team as Head of Group Life Insurance Risk. This role would suit a qualified actuary with deep life insurance expertise, a strategic mindset and a track record of leading high-performing and inclusive teams in a regulated financial services environment. You'll enjoy working across the business, helping to enable sustainable growth while maintaining strong risk discipline and delivering good customer outcomes.

A bit about the job:

As Head of Group Life Insurance Risk, you'll support the delivery of UK IWR's strategic ambitions by providing independent oversight, challenge and insight across the life insurance risks that underpin the business. Reporting to the IWR Enterprise Risk Director, you'll lead second-line oversight of longevity, mortality, morbidity, persistency and reinsurance risks, helping to ensure they are effectively understood, managed and optimised to support sustainable growth, capital efficiency and strong customer outcomes. Working closely with senior leaders across Risk, Finance and the business, you'll provide expert challenge and insight on strategic initiatives, pricing decisions, business opportunities, reinsurance arrangements and emerging risks. You'll lead a team of insurance risk specialists and help foster a culture of technical excellence, constructive challenge, continuous improvement and inclusion. The role also provides oversight of life insurance risk management across other parts of the Aviva Group, giving you the opportunity to influence strategic thinking and risk management practices beyond UK IWR.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Extensive experience in life insurance risk, actuarial, pricing, product development or financial management, with strong expertise across longevity, mortality, morbidity, persistency and reinsurance risk.

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise risk management, regulatory requirements and governance frameworks within the life insurance sector.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, support and provide constructive challenge to senior leaders across Risk, Finance and the wider business.

  • Commercially astute and strategically minded, able to balance robust risk management with business growth objectives while translating complex issues into clear, actionable insights.

  • Qualified Actuary (FIA/FFA) or equivalent experience, with proven leadership capability, a collaborative approach and a track record of building high-performing and inclusive teams and effective cross-functional relationships.
