Head of System Resilience
Head of System Resilience
Location: Norwich, York or Eastleigh
Salary: Circa - £110,000
This is a great job for someone who…loves shaping how large‑scale, critical systems stay resilient in the cloud. Are you someone who enjoys setting engineering standards, influencing senior technical leaders, and ensuring customers are protected even during major disruption?
This role will suit someone experienced in cloud‑native resilience, modern architecture patterns and operational resilience — particularly if you’re ready to lead enterprise‑wide technical direction and uplift organisational capability.
A bit about the job:
As the Head of System Resilience for a large-scale modernisation programme, you’ll define and embed resilience‑by‑design standards that protect our customers and services. You’ll lead the design of multi‑region system resiliency strategy ensuring patterns and technology are consistently adopted.
You will define the enterprise resilience blueprint spanning deployment patterns, DR models, sovereignty requirements and regulator‑ready RTO/RPO to embed it as mandatory governance. You’ll drive the organisation‑wide uplift in engineering and operational resilience, close systemic risks, and mandate robust DR and cyber‑recovery testing. This role will face into decisions balancing risk, resilience, regulation and cost.
You’ll work closely with architecture, cyber, engineering and operations teams to make resilience an integral part of Aviva’s engineering culture. Your expertise will shape how we design, test and govern system resilience now and in the future.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
Deep expertise in cloud‑native resilience engineering, including designing active‑active, active‑passive and active-standby in multi‑region architectures.
Strong knowledge of Disaster Recovery technology, including automation, cross‑region recovery, failover processes and scenario testing.
Solid understanding of RTO/RPO engineering and how to translate regulatory and business requirements into technical design.
In‑depth knowledge of data sovereignty, residency and lawful‑recovery constraints relevant to cloud regions and failover paths.
Ability to influence senior technical stakeholders and drive adoption of enterprise standards without direct line management
