Operational Cost Manager – Salary £35,000 (full-time equivalent)

Contract type: 12-month secondment

This is a great job for someone who enjoys making sense of numbers and helping teams make informed decisions.

You might be newly stepping into a finance-focused role, returning to work, or looking to apply your experience in a fresh way. If you’re curious about how data connects to real-world outcomes and enjoy working collaboratively, this could be a great fit. Experience in claims, finance, or operations is helpful but not essential—we’re more interested in your approach and willingness to learn.

A bit about the job:

You’ll be part of the Home Claims team, helping us understand and manage our operational costs. Your work will support how we plan, track, and forecast expenses, making sure we stay on budget and spot opportunities to improve. You’ll lead the quarterly forecasting process, building it from the ground up to reflect both current business needs and future growth. With a thoughtful and thorough approach, you’ll help identify key risks and opportunities, turning financial data into clear insights that guide decisions across the team. This role is key to making sure our financial reporting is accurate, timely, and easy to understand.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Comfortable working with data and spotting patterns or trends.
  • Able to explain complex information in a clear and simple way.
  • Good at managing your time and working with different teams.
  • Confident using Excel and PowerPoint to present ideas and findings.
  • Experience in finance or operations is useful, but not required.

What you’ll get for this role:

Our purpose - with you today, for a better tomorrow – is a promise we make to our colleagues too.  And one of the ways we live up to that promise is by investing in you.  We have so much to offer when it comes to being an Aviva colleague.

  • Starting salary £35,000 pro-rated
  • Bonus opportunity - 8% (C grade) of annual salary. Actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s.
  • Generous pension scheme - Aviva will contribute up to 14%, depending on what you put in.
  • 29 days holiday plus bank holidays, and you can choose to buy or sell up to 5 days
  • Aviva-funded Private Medical Benefit to help you get expert support when you need it
