About the role

We are looking for an experienced Operational Emissions Carbon Accountant to join our team on a 6-month contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for a carbon accounting and non-financial reporting specialist to play a key role in the delivery of operational carbon emissions reporting, assurance and sustainability disclosures.

You’ll be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness and integrity of operational emissions data, while helping to strengthen controls, improve reporting processes and support compliance with evolving sustainability standards and regulations.

Working across a broad network of internal and external stakeholders, you’ll provide specialist guidance on carbon accounting, data collection and reporting, and play an important role in the successful delivery of annual reporting and external assurance activities.

What you’ll be doing

• Lead the delivery of external assurance activities for operational carbon emissions.

• Manage carbon data collection, validation and reporting across multiple internal and external sources.

• Ensure operational emissions data is accurate, complete, transparent and appropriately controlled.

• Develop and maintain robust risk and control frameworks around non-financial reporting and operational data.

• Provide guidance to local subject matter experts on emissions reporting requirements.

• Analyse emissions data to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.

• Review and maintain appropriate estimation methodologies and emission factors.

• Support sustainability and regulatory reporting, including SECR, TCFD and CSRD.

• Contribute to ESG and sustainability submissions, including CDP, Sustainalytics and FTSE Russell.

• Support the preparation and publication of annual sustainability reporting.

• Monitor developments in carbon accounting, sustainability disclosure standards and climate-related regulation.

• Identify opportunities to improve carbon data systems, tools and reporting processes.

• Work with stakeholders to understand and explain movements and changes in emissions data.

• Manage relationships with suppliers supporting carbon accounting tools and solutions.

• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase data quality, reporting efficiency and control effectiveness.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with strong technical knowledge of carbon accounting and non-financial reporting, combined with excellent stakeholder management and analytical skills.

You’ll ideally have:

• Demonstrable knowledge of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, including Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.

• Experience of carbon accounting methodologies and sustainability reporting.

• Knowledge of emerging sustainability disclosure standards and climate-related regulation.

• Experience setting and managing controls around datasets and associated data processes.

• Experience managing or supporting external audits and assurance activities.

• Strong data management and analytical skills, including advanced proficiency in MS Excel.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

• The ability to build effective relationships and secure engagement across a complex stakeholder network.

• Experience working in a fast-moving, agile environment.

• A degree-level qualification or equivalent experience.

• A genuine interest in and understanding of the ESG and sustainability agenda.

Desirable experience

It would be advantageous if you also have:

• ISO 14064 qualification.

• A relevant sustainability or non-financial reporting certification.

• Experience working within the financial services sector.

• An understanding of climate change, greenhouse gas impacts and supply/value chains.

• Awareness of operational areas such as energy, waste and business travel.

About you

You’ll be highly organised, analytical and detail-focused, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight reporting deadlines.

You’ll be comfortable working independently while collaborating with colleagues across sustainability, finance, technical accounting, property, energy, business travel and other operational teams. You’ll also be confident engaging with senior stakeholders, suppliers and external auditors.

Most importantly, you’ll be able to translate complex carbon and non-financial data into clear insights and practical actions.
