Roadside Technician - Green Flag Patrol

Base salary £37,740 + OTE up to £44,000

This is a great job for someone who’s ready for a role where their mechanical skills genuinely make a difference.

At Green Flag, we’re growing our breakdown services and putting our people at the heart of everything we do. When someone’s car lets them down, you step in as the hero of the moment - getting them back on the road and taking the stress out of an unexpected situation.

We’re now part of Aviva, so joining us as an Aviva colleague means you’ll be backed by the strength and support of the UK’s leading diversified insurer while enjoying one of the most attractive work-life balance offerings in the industry.

With a four-day working week, no night shifts and the ability to start and finish your day from home, you’ll have more time for the things that matter outside of work.

A bit about the job:

  • Be the first point of contact for drivers who have broken down, providing expert roadside support

  • Diagnose vehicle faults and carry out minor repairs to get customers back on the road quickly

  • Complete practical tasks such as tyre repairs/changes, battery testing and replacement, and fuel assistance

  • Deliver clear explanations and reassurance, helping customers feel calm and supported in stressful situations

  • Use a fully equipped Green Flag vehicle and tools to safely resolve issues across your area

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • A strong mechanical background with excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills

  • Full UK Category B driving licence and aged 21+ (for insurance purposes)

  • NVQ Level 2 in light vehicle maintenance (or equivalent) preferred — or relevant hands-on experience/apprenticeship

  • Up-to-date knowledge of repair techniques and a strong commitment to safe working practices

  • Confidence working independently, with a calm, friendly, and empathetic approach to customers

This is a permanent, fieldbased role where you start and finish your day from home.

You’ll work 40 hours across four days a week, with shifts between 7am–8pm, Monday to Sunday. While work is planned within these hours, finish times may vary depending on the job at hand.

Overtime is available, but completely optional.

This role covers an area of - Cheltenham • Gloucester • Stroud • Cirencester • Swindon • Chippenham • Devizes • Melksham
Didcot • Wantage • Abingdon • Oxford • Bicester • Thame • Witney • Tewkesbury
