Senior Data Engineer

Salary: circa £70,000

Customer Data Platforms is a collection of data platform teams that facilitate fundamental customer interactions and journeys, which enable Aviva to deliver on its customer-centric strategy and most importantly, appropriate and fair customer decisions.

This role resides in the Customer Data team, which is at the core of Aviva’s digital strategy and provides a single source of customer data across our Customer and Marketing, GI and IWR propositions. We’re constantly striving to explore innovative ways to engage with new and existing customers on a portfolio of products that reach out to 17 million customers.

This successful candidate will work with projects and business teams, alongside our platform designers and scrum teams to ensure the smooth delivery desired of outcomes.

We are constantly modernising our complex data estate and play an important part in all Aviva teams achieving strategic targets, whilst supporting business self-service were possible.  We welcome those with specific suitable skills – or with a healthy appetite to learn and develop these skills with us.

Skills and experience we’re looking for

  • Software engineering leadership experience, with the ability to lead technical teams, influence engineering standards, mentor engineers, and drive continuous improvement across large-scale platforms. 
  • Strong Java development expertise, including experience with modern software engineering practices, CI/CD pipelines, SOLID design principles, and delivering high-quality, resilient production solutions. 
  • Experience working with large-scale data platforms and integration technologies, including databases such as PostgreSQL and Redshift, API-based data ingestion, and ideally Master Data Management solutions such as Reltio.
  • Technical leadership in cloud and DevOps environments, with knowledge of AWS, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, automation, monitoring, and building scalable, secure, and highly available services.
  • Strong stakeholder management and delivery skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, architecture, platform, business, and operational teams to deliver strategic outcomes and improve customer experiences.

  • Salary circa £70,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
