This is a senior actuarial role focused on independent challenge, assurance and governance, supporting robust decisions across the business.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Governance Actuary to join our Actuarial & Assurance team, reporting to the Actuarial Function & Governance Lead.

The role supports the Actuarial Function & Governance Lead and Head of Actuarial Function in delivering actuarial oversight, independent challenge and assurance across the business. Through reviewing actuarial assumptions, methodologies, results and recommendations, the role helps ensure robust decision-making and contributes to formal Actuarial Function reports and opinions, including ARTP and AOTP. The role also supports regulatory compliance, risk investigations and strategic initiatives, providing assurance to senior stakeholders and strengthening the company's risk and financial management framework.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the Actuarial Function & Governance Lead and Head of Actuarial Function by delivering independent review, challenge and assurance across actuarial matters.
  • Lead detailed reviews of actuarial assumptions, methodologies, models, results, recommendations, controls and peer review, assessing whether conclusions are robust, evidence-based and suitable for actuarial sign-off.
  • Contribute to formal Actuarial Function reports and opinions, including ARTP, AOTP and input to the HoAF opinion on ORSA, and provide challenge on technical provisions, financial reporting, pricing, reinsurance, risk management and other material decisions.
  • Translate complex actuarial analysis into clear conclusions and recommendations for senior stakeholders, and support investigations into risk events, root causes, impacts and proportionate remediation, tracking material actions to closure.
  • Work constructively across Analysis & Reporting, Finance, Risk, Commercial and Operations while maintaining assurance independence, coaching less-experienced colleagues and improving governance work through automation and standardisation.

Skills & Experience

  • Qualified actuary, or an actuarial professional nearing qualification, with relevant experience in life insurance or another regulated financial services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Solvency II, IFRS and actuarial governance, with experience reviewing and challenging actuarial assumptions, methodologies, models and results.
  • Sound professional judgement, strong analytical and problem-solving capability, and the confidence to form and communicate independent, evidence-based conclusions.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex actuarial matters to senior stakeholders and different audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with appropriate documentation, traceability and control, combined with a collaborative style, resilience to challenge and an interest in automation, data analysis and process improvement.
