A fantastic opportunity has arisen in the Legal Indemnity (LI) team of Aviva UK’s Global Corporate and Specialty (GCS) department. The team is actively recruiting for an underwriter in our Estate Distribution, Wills and Probate arm of the Legal Indemnity team.
The role holder will be responsible for underwriting profitable business within a specific area, operating within agreed guidelines and authority levels. We’re looking for someone to actively pursue opportunities to grow the book of work through new business, in line with our team and GCS targets.
We believe this is a great role for someone coming from underwriting, legal or genealogist background who wants to focus their career in this specialised area. Our existing team will support in training any gaps in insurance knowledge around wills, probate processes and estate distribution. Our LI team is building from strength to strength, and this is the right time for us to bring in someone to take the initiative in this side of the market, evolve our product and build business with Aviva’s backing and resources.
The role’s duties & responsibilities:
Making day-to-day underwriting decisions regarding the acceptance and rating of risks within detailed guidelines and agreed authority limits
Handling and owning caseloads - underwriting new business within Aviva’s values; Providing technical support and assistance to customers, taking care of all queries in line with authority level
Developing sustainable relationships and understanding the relevant the broker markets to support new business growth
Spotting and initiating opportunities for service and operational improvements by acting on feedback from customers; sharing ideas with leadership and peers
Understanding that working within our governance frameworks is fundamental to make sure we’re risk compliant as an organisation
Skills & experiences required:
We’re open on commercial experience from either working in a law firm’s Wills & Probate department, a genealogist or from an underwriting background within Legal Indemnities
Robust experience with purchasing and/or preparing the Estate Distribution insurance products available in the market (e.g. Missing Beneficiary, Missing Will, Early Distribution, etc.) is an advantage
Track record of being responsible for managing own caseloads/projects within a regulatory environment and following due process
Commercial background of analysing complex information and drawing out relevant facts
Well-tuned communication skills to articulate technical issues and evidence of influencing key contacts in the marketplace
