Job Title - Underwriter - Cargo (Lloyd’s based)

Aviva is a market leader in the marine market with over 10% market share in the IUA cargo company market space and an ever more significant growing book in the syndicate space following our acquisition of Probitas Syndicate 1492 in 2024. A bit about the job:
The role of Underwriter is key to the continued success, growth, and ambition we have for Marine, and sits within a team of 8 writing wholesale business from our two Boxes in Lloyd’s and a wider team of marine underwriters in London primarily working out of our London office. You will have responsibility and stamps for both Aviva as a company market and Probitas as a syndicate.
Our appetite is broad & worldwide including North America. Experience is required of writing cargo / stock throughput business in this environment.
You will have accountability for:
Ensuring the allocated business is aligned to plan requirements for all Marine business written & renewed.
Delivering the volume, quality and profitability of growth opportunities to the Line of Business which enables them to hit their plan targets.
Building relationships with brokers and customers all over the world, including some travel.
Responsible for the performance and development of the risks assigned to you and as per plan. Plans include metrics for new and renewal targets for GWP, NWP, Loss Ratio, Expense Ratio, and Combined Ratio, and rate achievement.
Case by case judgement required to ensure overall strategy and governance targets are met.
Success is measured by delivery of pipeline to achieve plan, growth in GWP and profit, positive intermediary and client sentiment and trust and – importantly - never forgetting the ability to help foster a great team ethos which brings out the very best in everybody.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
Well regarded by London market brokers with the ability to build and maintain relationships.
Experience in underwriting and handling London market wholesale cargo and stock throughput business. 3 years+ London Market Cargo experience.
Highly motivated / self-starter / the ability to plan and prioritise affectively.
Results oriented with proven track record of underwriting a portfolio for a London Market/Lloyd’s Marine account including understanding the metrics required to monitor such a portfolio.
ACII qualified or working towards
