This is a great job for someone who:Is early in their applied AI engineering career or ready to take a first specialist step into building production AI systems.
You may already have solid Python engineering foundations and are excited to apply them to real‑world AI problems, learning how AI is designed, evaluated, governed, and operated safely in a regulated environment.
This role would suit someone who enjoys hands‑on engineering, is curious about how AI works in practice, and wants to grow their technical judgement alongside more experienced engineers.
A bit about the job:This role sits within Aviva’s growing Applied AI Engineering capability, focused on turning AI into real, measurable outcomes for customers and colleagues.
The role exists to support delivery of production AI systems while developing the next generation of applied AI engineering capability within Aviva.
You will join a small specialist team building and operating AI systems in a regulated, customer‑first environment, contributing high‑quality code and learning how enterprise‑grade AI is delivered responsibly.
Skills and experience we are looking for:
Strong Python programming foundations, with the ability to write clean, well‑tested, production‑quality code.
A foundational understanding of applied AI and large language model concepts, such as agents, prompt design, or retrieval‑augmented generation.
Good core software engineering practices, including version control, testing, and working in a sprint‑based environment.
A learning mindset, willing to develop skills in AI evaluation, quality, and responsible AI practices over time.
An understanding that AI systems impact real customers and must be built with care, transparency, and accountability.

Salary Circa: £55K (depending on location, skills, experience and qualifications).
