Compliance Monitoring Specialist

We’re looking for a Compliance Monitoring Specialist (Conduct & Assurance) to join our ALPI Compliance team. This role sits firmly within the 2nd line of defence and is focused on conduct risk, governance and regulatory assurance, rather than financial crime, AML or sanctions monitoring. Candidates whose experience is primarily financial crime–based are unlikely to find this role aligned to their background.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in compliance monitoring, internal audit or assurance who enjoys independently assessing how effectively the business is meeting its conduct, customer protection and governance obligations. You’ll play a key role in delivering our annual Compliance Monitoring Plan, carrying out thematic reviews, testing key controls and providing high‑quality insight that supports strong customer outcomes and regulatory standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Deliver independent, conduct‑focused thematic compliance monitoring reviews in line with the annual Compliance Monitoring Plan, including scoping, walkthroughs, control testing, analysis and report writing.

• Assess and challenge the effectiveness of business controls related to conduct of business rules, Fitness & Probity, complaints handling, product governance and other regulatory requirements.

• Partner with operational teams, Risk and Internal Audit to identify control weaknesses, agree proportionate recommendations, and track remediation actions through to completion.

• Maintain oversight of conduct and regulatory breaches (excluding financial crime), support the preparation of assurance insights for senior governance forums and the Risk Committee, and contribute to wider conduct‑related regulatory reporting.

• Promote a strong compliance culture by interpreting regulatory developments, supporting updates to relevant policies, and contributing to conduct‑focused training and awareness initiatives.

Skills & Experiences

• Demonstrated experience delivering 2nd line compliance monitoring, conduct assurance or internal audit reviews within insurance, life & pensions, investments or wider financial services.

• Strong understanding of conduct of business regulation, Fitness & Probity, corporate governance and regulatory expectations in a CBI‑regulated environment.

• Proven ability to design and execute thematic testing, assess control effectiveness, and produce clear, concise and well‑structured assurance reports.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and influence at all levels of the organisation.

• Ability to interpret regulatory developments, assess their practical impact, and provide clear, proportionate guidance to the business.
