A bit about the job

This role exists to lead and deliver high‑impact data science across Aviva’s Global Corporate & Specialty business. You’ll head up a team of data scientists who work closely with underwriting, claims and operational teams to improve decision‑making and customer outcomes. You’ll set direction, shape priorities and make sure our analytics deliver real value, including through the Nova transformation programme. You’ll be accountable for people leadership, strategic delivery and facilitating high quality, impactful data science work.

Alongside coaching and supporting your team to build strong technical capability and commercial insight, you’ll be accountable for the end‑to‑end delivery of the GCS data science portfolio. You’ll prioritise work on the highest‑value opportunities with senior stakeholders, oversee resourcing, budget, capacity and delivery dependencies, and work closely with senior leaders to turn business challenges into clear analytical approaches. You’ll also ensure insights land clearly through models, dashboards and decision tools, while setting clear standards for analytics in line with Aviva’s expectations.

Skills and experience we’re looking for

  • Proven experience leading and developing data science or advanced analytics teams in a complex organisation
  • Strong track record of delivering impactful analytical work and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Deep understanding of data science techniques and their practical application in business decision‑making
  • Experience setting technical direction and standards, with a pragmatic approach to governance and risk
  • Confident communicator who can explain complex ideas clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences

  • Starting salary circa £80,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
