Head of Media Relations (Investment, Wealth & Retirement)

Location: York, Norwich, Bristol, London based (50% hybrid working)

Salary: circa £100,000 (national) - circa £120,000 (London)

This is a great job for someone who is a seasoned communications professional, with expertise in media relations, consumer PR or broader corporate communications.

A bit about the job:

This role-holder leads a team of media relations professionals to develop and deliver a first-class media relations plan to support the Investment, Wealth & Retirement (IWR) business and aligned to the overall Brand and Corporate Affairs strategy, Aviva’s overall corporate priorities and the Investment, Wealth & Retirement business objectives.

This encompasses proactive consumer PR activity to promote our brand, and reactive issues management and media handling to help protect our reputation. This team work closely with other areas of the function including public policy, employee comms, social/digital media and financial media – to ensure an integrated communications approach.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Team Leadership: the ability to motivate and drive a team in service of defined objectives and ensuring clear prioritisation of activity

  • Stakeholder Management: the ability to work with, and advise, senior stakeholders across the business, including at CEO level

  • Media Relations Expertise: a strong level of media relations experience including a strong understanding of how national and trade media work, how to build effective relationships with journalists, the ability to craft news, features and editorial content, knowledge of how to manage hostile media enquiries

  • Issues and Crisis Management: knowledge and understanding of what constitutes a reputational risk for the business and experience in helping to mitigate and manage issues and crises with the media

Please be advised there will be an element of travel required with this role across both Regional and London based sites.
