Aviva Ireland have a new vacancy for a Legal Counsel on a part-time job share basis working Wednesday to Friday each week. This individual will provide integrated in-house regulatory, governance and legal advice to our Life & Pensions business in Ireland.

This position lies in a busy and strategically important team which delivers first class legal advice and manages diverse client relationships across the UKI business. An understanding of Pensions law and regulation as well as Trusts is a necessary requirement for this role.

You will be joining a committed and collaborative team in Dublin, reporting to the Head of Legal or other senior team member at Aviva Life and Pensions Ireland DAC and will be based in the Aviva’s Dublin office with hybrid ‘smart working’ available.

Duties & responsibilities?

  • Providing legal advice with support to all areas of the business, including in particular to the Pensions Technical and Customer Experience teams

  • Assist the Head of Legal and wider legal team with identification and prudent management of legal, regulatory and reputational risk

  • Ability work on own initiative, managing own workload and seeking to add valuable support to a busy legal team

  • Provide general legal advice and assistance in relation to (new) business initiatives, programmes, services and products

  • Commercial contract drafting/negotiation (agency/investment management/custody agreements etc.)

Skills & experience:

  • Relevant post-qualifying experienced PQE essential ideally with in-house, Financial Services/Regulatory experience ideally life assurance but experience in the wider financial services sector will be considered.

  • Understanding of Pensions law and regulation as well as Trusts necessary

  • Strong personal presence with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Proven ability to influence effectively, build business relationships and gain the trust of senior executives

  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, proven effectiveness at managing contract negotiations from inception to close

  • Commercial experience and experience with Outsourcing
