Migration Lead – Health Evolution

Role title: Migration Lead

Programme: Health EvolutionLocation: Flexible / hybrid

Role type: Programme delivery leadership

Role purpose

The Migration Lead will be responsible for developing and delivering the end-to-end migration strategy for moving the Health business onto Salesforce as part of the Health Evolution programme. This is a critical leadership role in a complex, multi-year transformation, requiring the successful candidate to shape a robust, controlled and executable approach to migrating from a significant legacy estate of systems, data, processes and operational workarounds onto a modern Salesforce-enabled platform.

The role will need to balance delivery pace with operational stability, customer and colleague impact, regulatory requirements and long-term decommissioning outcomes. The successful candidate must have proven experience of leading similar large-scale migrations in complex, regulated environments, ideally involving Salesforce, insurance platforms, legacy system replacement, data migration and business process transformation.

Programme context

Health Evolution is transforming the Health business by implementing modern quote, onboarding, policy management, servicing and claims capabilities on Salesforce. The programme is moving away from a fragmented and constrained legacy technology and process landscape, with the ambition of creating a scalable, data-led and customer journey focused platform that supports growth, efficiency and better experiences for customers, brokers and colleagues.

Migration is a pivotal dependency for realising the programme’s benefits. The Migration Lead will need to define how Health moves safely from current-state systems and processes into the new Salesforce-enabled operating model, including transition states, coexistence, data readiness, operational cutover, controls, testing, reconciliation, decommissioning and benefits realisation alignment.

Key accountabilities

·         Develop the end-to-end Health Evolution migration strategy, covering data, systems, processes, customers, policies, operational teams and legacy decommissioning.

·         Define clear migration principles, guardrails and decision criteria, ensuring the approach balances business value, delivery risk, customer impact, operational capacity and technical feasibility.

·         Shape and maintain the migration roadmap, aligned to programme releases, Salesforce capability delivery, business implementation planning and benefits realisation milestones.

·         Lead detailed migration planning for each release or transition state, including scope, sequencing, readiness criteria, cutover approach, rollback considerations, reconciliation and post-migration support.

·         Partner with architecture, data, product, technology, operations, risk, compliance and business readiness teams to ensure migration plans are complete, controlled and executable.

·         Establish and manage migration governance, including decision forums, issue escalation, dependency management, risk tracking and reporting to programme leadership.

·         Ensure data migration activities are underpinned by robust data quality assessment, mapping, cleansing, validation, reconciliation and auditability.

·         Drive the approach to legacy process removal and system decommissioning, ensuring the programme avoids unnecessary dual running and delivers sustainable simplification.

·         Lead migration rehearsals, dress rehearsals and readiness reviews, ensuring lessons are captured and applied before live execution.

·         Work with change and operational teams to ensure impacted colleagues, customers, brokers and partners are prepared for migration and transition to new ways of working.

·         Provide clear, evidence-based reporting on migration progress, risks, blockers, readiness and confidence levels.

·         Bring external migration experience and challenge to the programme, helping avoid common failure modes such as scope bloat, under-tested transition states, poor data readiness, prolonged dual running and unclear ownership.

Required experience

·         Proven experience leading complex business, data and technology migrations in a large-scale transformation environment.

·         Demonstrable track record of migrating from legacy estates onto modern platforms, ideally including Salesforce or comparable SaaS / CRM / policy administration platforms.

·         Experience working in regulated environments, ideally insurance, financial services or health-related businesses.

·         Strong understanding of migration strategy, cutover planning, coexistence models, data migration, reconciliation, operational readiness and legacy decommissioning.

·         Experience working across business and technology teams, with the ability to translate technical migration complexity into clear business choices and delivery plans.

·         Proven ability to lead through ambiguity, establish structure, make trade-offs and drive progress in complex stakeholder environments.

·         Experience of agile, incremental or phased delivery models, including release-based migration planning and progressive transition states.

·         Strong understanding of data quality, data governance, data mapping, testing and assurance requirements in migration contexts.

·         Experience managing migration risks, dependencies, controls and governance in a way that supports safe delivery without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.

·         Previous experience of failed, reset or high-risk transformation environments would be valuable, particularly where lessons learned have informed a stronger delivery approach.

Skills and capabilities

·         Strategic migration leadership, with the ability to define both the big-picture approach and the practical delivery plan.

·         Strong programme delivery discipline, including planning, dependency management, governance, reporting and risk management.

·         Excellent stakeholder management, with credibility across senior business, technology, risk, operations and partner teams.

·         Ability to simplify complexity and present clear options, recommendations and trade-offs to decision-makers.

·         Commercial and operational awareness, ensuring migration choices support value realisation and sustainable business outcomes.

·         Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to challenge assumptions, legacy thinking and “like-for-like” migration behaviours.

·         Collaborative leadership style, able to build trust across Aviva, Salesforce, delivery partners and business teams.

·         Outcome-focused mindset, with a strong emphasis on safe delivery, customer impact, operational stability and benefits realisation.
