Platform Engineer
Salary: £45,000
Individual Protection Platform Team
This is a great job for someone who enjoys keeping critical systems running smoothly and likes being the calm, capable presence when things need fixing.
Are you someone who has experience supporting production platforms and wants to deepen your impact in a purpose‑driven organisation?
Do you love solving technical problems, collaborating with others, and improving how systems, processes and controls work day to day?
This role would suit an experienced engineer who has worked in a high‑availability environment and is comfortable working with both internal teams and external delivery partners. It’s ideal if you enjoy a mix of hands‑on technical work, operational responsibility and continuous improvement.
A bit about the job
As part of the Individual Protection Platform team, you’ll help keep the systems that support our customers’ protection products running reliably, securely and efficiently. The role exists to ensure our production platforms are stable, well monitored and resilient, enabling customer‑facing teams to support advisers and customers with confidence. You’ll be accountable for monitoring system health, resolving incidents, supporting third‑party code releases, and ensuring our platforms meet Aviva’s risk, control and governance standards.
You’ll work closely with customers, testers, platform and deployment teams, and third‑party partners to deliver fixes, improvements and safe, well‑controlled releases.
Skills and experience we’re looking for
- Experience supporting production systems in a high‑transaction, 24/7 environment, including incident management and issue resolution
- Strong technical capability in AWS, SQL Server, CI/CD tooling (such as Jenkins) and modern platform or integration technologies (e.g. APIs, networking fundamentals)
- Collaborate with third‑party development and delivery partners to support the end‑to‑end shipping of code, ensuring quality standards are met and coordinating successful placement of releases onto Aviva‑managed infrastructure
- Controls & Testing: Support controls assessments, review pen test results, and help close out audit issues
- Clear and inclusive communication skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a co‑located or distributed team, including participation in on‑call support where required, alongside strong problem‑solving skills and the confidence to diagnose complex issues and identify practical solutions
