Senior Legal Counsel – Digital and Data Protection
Salary: Circa £110,000
Location: London based (50% hybrid working)
Contract: 12-month Fixed Term Contract
A bit about the job
We’re growing – and that means exciting opportunities. This is a key role in our Group Legal team, supporting Aviva’s digital strategy and data protection compliance. You’ll provide expert legal advice on UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and PECR, helping us navigate a fast-evolving regulatory landscape. From reviewing data protection impact assessments and international data transfers to advising on AI, marketing, and digital innovation, your work will shape how we manage privacy across the business. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders across Legal, Compliance, and Technology to ensure we stay ahead of the curve and deliver trusted, practical advice.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
- Qualified solicitor or barrister (UK), with strong post-qualification experience in data protection and digital law
- Deep understanding of UK GDPR, DPA 2018, and PECR, with hands-on experience advising on DPIAs, data sharing, and international transfers
- Experience supporting digital transformation, including marketing, e-commerce, and emerging technologies like AI and machine learning
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to balance legal risk with business goals in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with a track record of building trusted relationships across legal, compliance, and business teams
- A proactive, curious mindset and a genuine passion for privacy, innovation, and helping businesses do the right thing
