Aviva Life & Pensions Ireland (ALPI) is seeking a Senior Operational & Change Risk Manager to join its second line risk function. This role is responsible for providing oversight and assurance across operational and change risk, supporting the delivery of robust risk management in a dynamic and evolving environment. The successful candidate will produce high-quality risk insights and reporting to inform senior decision-making and ensure regulatory compliance. This opportunity is well-suited to professionals with a background in financial services, particularly those experienced in operational risk, change environments, or governance within complex organisations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide second line oversight of operational and change risk, ensuring alignment with internal frameworks and regulatory expectations.
  • Review and challenge risk assessments, controls, and mitigation strategies across business-as-usual and transformation activities.
  • Collaborate with first line teams to embed risk management into operational processes and change delivery, promoting a strong risk culture.
  • Produce timely, high-quality risk reporting and insights for senior management and governance forums, supporting informed decision-making.
  • Monitor emerging risks and trends, escalating concerns and recommending actions to mitigate potential exposures.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of risk frameworks, tools, and methodologies, and support thematic reviews and assurance activities.

Skills & Experiences

  • Proven experience in operational risk management within financial services, ideally within insurance, banking, or another highly regulated environment.
  • A strong understanding of first line operations or change delivery, with the ability to assess and challenge risk from a business perspective.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage, influence, and constructively challenge senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work at pace, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
  • Sound knowledge of regulatory expectations and risk assurance practices, with the ability to interpret and apply them in a practical business context.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to translate complex information into clear, actionable insights and recommendations.
