Actuarial Governance Trainee

Opportunity ref number: R-172608
Location
Dublin
Contract type
Permanent opportunity

This is an actuarial development role combining analysis, assurance and governance, with broad exposure to how actuarial conclusions support business decisions.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Governance Actuary to join our Actuarial & Assurance team, working within the Actuarial Function & Governance team.

The role supports the Actuarial Function & Governance team in delivering actuarial oversight, assurance and challenge across key business activities. Through analysis, validation, investigations and evidence gathering, the role contributes to the review of actuarial results, assumptions and methodologies, while supporting the preparation of Actuarial Function reports, opinions and governance activities. The role provides a broad foundation in actuarial governance and helps strengthen the quality, control and effectiveness of actuarial decision-making across the business.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the Actuarial Function & Governance team in delivering independent review, assurance and evidence-based challenge across actuarial activities.
  • Perform data analysis, reconciliations, reasonableness checks and movement analysis, investigating unusual movements, data issues and emerging risks and escalating matters requiring further actuarial judgement.
  • Prepare clear, well-controlled evidence packs, working papers and draft sections for Actuarial Function reports, opinions and governance updates, ensuring results are complete, accurate, traceable and appropriately reviewed.
  • Maintain review trackers, action logs and governance evidence, follow agreed actions through to closure, and support investigations into actuarial risk events, root causes, impacts and remediation.
  • Work collaboratively across Actuarial, Finance, Risk, Commercial and Operations, turning analysis into concise insights while contributing to automation, standardisation and continuous improvement of governance reviews.

Skills & Experience

  • A degree with strong numerical, analytical or problem-solving content, together with a commitment to progress through the actuarial qualification.
  • ·Early actuarial or relevant analytical experience, with a clear interest in insurance and actuarial governance; knowledge of life insurance, Solvency II, IFRS or actuarial reporting would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and curiosity to understand why results have changed rather than simply accepting an output.
  • Ability to organise analysis and evidence clearly, follow controlled processes and produce accurate work to agreed deadlines.
  • Confident written and verbal communication, a collaborative mindset and an interest in data analysis, automation and improving manual processes; Excel experience and exposure to tools such as Power BI or Python would be beneficial.
