Salary: £115k circa (London) / 100k circa (National)

This is a great job for someone who

Enjoys designing how systems connect and data flows across a complex organisation. You might be an experienced integration or API architect who likes balancing big‑picture thinking with hands‑on technical depth, and who’s comfortable influencing across multiple teams and markets. If you enjoy simplifying legacy integration, shaping standards, and enabling modern, cloud‑native platforms, this role could be a great fit.

A bit about the job:

The API & Integration Architect designs and evolves Aviva’s API‑led and event‑driven integration landscape, helping ensure systems connect in a secure, scalable, and well‑governed way. The role shapes enterprise integration patterns across cloud, on‑prem, and multi‑market platforms, supporting Aviva’s digital, operational, and data ambitions. Working closely with engineering, security, and architecture teams, you’ll help move the organisation towards more decoupled, resilient, and reusable integration solutions.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • API Architecture & Design (Synchronous and Asynchronous) - Ability to design scalable, secure, standards‑aligned APIs—including synchronous request/response and asynchronous/event‑driven patterns—to support modern integration across a complex system landscape.
  • Event‑Driven Integration & Event Backbone Architecture - Expertise in architecting event streaming patterns, decoupled services, and backbone evolution to reduce system fragility and enable real‑time, domain‑driven data flows.
  • Integration Platform & Middleware Engineering - Strong understanding of integration middleware (e.g., API gateways like Kong, event brokers, ETL/ELT, file transfer, RPA integration methods), enabling secure and performant cross‑platform connectivity.
  • Cloud‑Native & Container‑Based Deployment Patterns - Knowledge of container orchestration, cloud hosting, zero‑trust controls, and scalable deployment models that underpin resilient integration capabilities.
  • API Governance, Security & Discoverability - Skill in defining standards for API security, metadata, cataloguing, observability, versioning, lifecycle governance, and aligning integration practices with enterprise frameworks and CISO policies
