This is an exciting opportunity for a Cloud Service Team Leader to join our growing AWS Platform Engineering team. Are you passionate about leading people, driving technical delivery, and owning critical cloud services that power a large-scale financial services platform? 

Working within a Financial Services organisation, for the benefit of millions of customers, this role will give you the opportunity to lead a team of talented engineers, shape the future of our AWS cloud platform, and ensure the services you own are secure, reliable, and continuously improving. 

A bit about the job:

As a Cloud Service Team Lead, you will play a pivotal role in leading a team of skilled AWS Cloud Engineers while taking ownership of key services within our cloud platform. You will be responsible for ensuring these services are secure, reliable, and continuously evolving to meet business needs.  

 

This role combines people leadership with technical delivery, requiring you to guide and mentor your team, manage workloads, and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. You will work closely with engineering leaders, architects, and stakeholders to align service roadmaps with strategic objectives, while maintaining hands-on involvement to provide technical direction and credibility. Ultimately, you will ensure that your team delivers high-quality solutions that enable Aviva to scale efficiently, operate securely, and deliver exceptional value to our customers. 

 

You will balance leadership responsibilities with technical involvement, ensuring your team is empowered to deliver while you maintain a strong understanding of our technology stack. 

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience leading technical teams, developing people and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, ideally in a cloud or platform engineering environment. 

  • Strong knowledge of AWS or Azure cloud platforms, with hands-on experience in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred). 

  • Ability to manage and prioritise multiple streams of work, balancing delivery and operational responsibilities. 

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams. 

  • A track record of owning and improving services, ensuring they deliver value and meet compliance requirements.

  • National salary circa £58,000, London salary circa £67,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
