A bit about the job:
As a Senior Data Engineering Specialist at Aviva, you’ll help shape the Customer Data Platform that powers our business. You’ll design, build, and evolve highly scalable data pipelines and platforms, enabling fast, reliable data access for analytics and operational data‑driven applications. This role calls for deep expertise across data engineering, software development, and system architecture—and the curiosity to keep pushing what’s possible.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
- Senior Data Engineering Expertise – 10+ years designing and building scalable data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses supporting both batch and real‑time use cases
- Programming & Big Data Frameworks – Strong proficiency in Python, Java/Scala, and SQL, with hands‑on experience using Spark, Hadoop, and Kafka in distributed environments
- Cloud‑Native Data Platforms – Deep experience across AWS (EMR, S3, Redshift, Glue, Lambda, Kinesis, SQS) and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
- Modern Data Platforms & Orchestration – Skilled in Docker, Kubernetes, Airflow, and working with both SQL and NoSQL databases to deliver reliable, fault‑tolerant systems
- DevOps & Engineering Best Practices – Advanced CI/CD automation with Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Git version control, monitoring and logging, and Agile software development practices

- Salary: £60,000 - £72,000 based (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
- Bonus opportunity 10% of annual salary - Actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s
