Nature Policy Advocacy Lead – Salary circa £70.000

The Nature Policy Advocacy Lead plays an important role in shaping Aviva’s public policy development and government engagement work on sustainability issues, with a particular focus on nature and climate change adaptation policy. The role is mainly UK focused, but relevant international policy issues and events also fall in scope, such as supporting Aviva’s preparations for global sustainability summits.

A bit about the job:

Working closely with investment, insurance, commercial (client-facing), sustainability, and other colleagues across the business, the aim of this role is to lead on the development of detailed policy positions on nature and climate change adaptation policy issues, with a particular focus on unlocking greater private investment in nature restoration and climate adaptation projects etc. The Nature Policy Advocacy Lead also supports colleagues where relevant on a broader range of sustainability policy issues and regularly interacts with UK government and parliamentary representatives on this agenda.

The Nature Policy Advocacy Lead regularly provides relevant policy insights to other group functions, as well as investment, insurance, and commercial (client-facing) teams across the business on the nature and climate adaptation agenda. It provides regular public policy and government affairs support to other business units such as Group Sustainability, and also supports the convening of the cross-cutting Sustainability Advocacy Forum that brings together a wide range of business units with a stake in the sustainability agenda.

The Nature Policy Advocacy Lead reports to the Head of Climate and Nature Policy Advocacy in the Group Public Affairs team. The role collaborates closely with the Climate Policy Advocacy Specialist in the same team, who focuses more on complementary low-carbon policy issues.

Skills and experience we’re looking for

• A strong foundation in environmental and climate policy, with a particular focus on nature policy and climate change adaptation policy.
• Experience of working in public policy development and public affairs on sustainability issues, in either a reputable civil society organisation, corporate organisation or both.
• A good understanding of UK politics and an understanding of EU and broader global politics is desirable (such as an understanding of the politics around global summits).
• A proven ability to network and collaborate with others and adapt communication style as required.

• Starting salary circa £70.000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
